Bush Leaguers
Co-creator and co-author of the world’s only baseball-themed comic set in late 1800s Brooklyn.
(To my knowledge)
Like most great ideas, this one started in a hot tub, over beers, at a bachelor party. The concept was simple: to tell the story of a discordant and turbulent time in our country’s history through the trials and tribulations of a down-on-their-luck baseball club. And have some laughs along the way.
Over the years, I’ve worked with my co-creator Bob Mckeon, to envision and create the Bush Leaguers world: the Brooklyn environment, the characters and their motivations, the plot lines and story arcs, first as an animated series, and then reimagined as a comic book. We’ve collaborated with animators, directed actors, spent nights and weekends trying to push this project into existence. And after numerous pitches, some “love it, but it’s not for us”, and some serious ghosting by media and publishing execs, Bush Leaguers finally found a home at Scout Comics, with the first issue hitting stores in 2022.
Take a look at the journey through the following pictures and videos, and please, by all means, feel free to purchase a copy. I hear it makes an amazing gift.
